Linda Cerynik has worked with children and families for over 30 years. She graduated from William Paterson University in New Jersey with a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing. At that time, she also completed the university's teacher training program and was certified for grades K-8 in New Jersey. Upon moving to Pennsylvania, she obtained her Teaching Certificate from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and is certified to teach in Pennsylvania. Linda is currently certified for grades K-12, with special certification in English and Language Arts.
Most of Linda’s teaching has been in the homeschool community. In the context of homeschool co-ops, she has taught pre-school, various elementary-level classes, and writing classes for all ages. She and her husband home educated their children for 15 years. Linda has extensive experience in various curricula, methods, and educational approaches. She has performed homeschool evaluations since 2009 and served in the leadership of a homeschool co-op from 2013-2016. She currently teaches 6th and 9th grade English at the University Scholars Program of PALCS (Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School.) Linda is passionate to see children thrive. She started Roots to Wings to empower families to create and sustain a successful homeschool.
Melissa Koval joined Roots to Wings in 2022. She has a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Temple University. While she did intend to teach in the public schools, the Lord had other plans. After several years of substitute teaching and teaching preschool, a move brought Melissa and her husband Dan to Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Here she became a Technical Support Analyst, then Escalation Administrator, for a local software company where her husband continues to work. After having her first child, it was decided that Melissa would primarily stay home to raise the kids. The road to becoming a homeschool mom began as a desire to save money on preschool, but with the encouragement of her husband and a close friend, that desire flourished into a long-term aspiration. She has now been homeschooling her two boys for almost eight years. In her free time, Melissa enjoys walking, taking photos, and always loves a good organizing challenge.
